Letter from Elder Peacock...5/23/2011

A nice big shout out through the computer to Brigham who turns 9 this week, Parabéns Brigham!

I sent a package about 2 weeks ago with my SD card included so be looking for that.  First few days with Elder Wheatley everything is going really good and we are just speaking up a firestorm of Portuguêse.  We had stake conference this week and it was really awesome to have that many members all together, and it was just a great meeting with a great spirit.  And I had a really awesome experience at stake conference, which I am going to share with you, and I think dad should like it too, as well as everybody else.

We got there a half an hour early to greet all the members and to say Hi to everyone.  Then a member from Matosinhos came up to us and asked us if we would like to help with his vigilance service thing he was doing.  It was to have people stand outside the stake center to make sure nothing happened to the cars or anything during conference, because they have had a couple problems before.  So, we said yes, then he pulled out a little sack with a bunch of little pieces of paper inside.  We drew out our paper, but pulled out 3 on accident and put 2 back.  The assigned time was 11:00 to 11:10.  So, he said ok, and he told us to be out there right at 11 and tell whoever is out here they can go back in.  So 11:00 came and we headed out.  We made it outside and relieved Irmão Barbosa of his watch duty.  At exactly at 11:01 we saw 3 people at the other end of the parking lot walking towards us and the front doors.  They weren´t dressed up in Sunday attire, just normal clothes and we didn´t think much of it, because we assumed they could have been investigators or something like that of one of the other 10 missionary companionships there.  They entered the building as we greeted them with a "Bom Dia".  About 30 seconds later they returned to us asking if we spoke english, and we replied yes.  But, only one of them spoke english and none of them spoke portuguese.  She (the one that spoke english) told us they were looking for a protestant church and asked if we knew where one was.  We didn´t, but told them that they were welcome to stay here at ours, and she asked what church is this?   We began talking and explained to her about our church.  I then asked her where they were from and their reply shocked me, but gave me an amazing feeling...Poland!  I just had to tell her that the was where my dad served.  It was a pretty cool experience and I could feel the spirit while I was telling her that and she thought it was really cool.  We then traded contact information and told them a little bit more.  It was an amazing experience and is a testimony to me that this is the true church and this is the Lord´s work and He has His hand in this work.  Because if they would have came at any other time, they would have found someone that only spoke portuguese and not english, and would not have been able to communicate.  And I know it was not just a random chance that we drew out the paper that said 11:00 to 11:10, because the Lord knew these 3 would be there at this time.  I know this church is true and I love it with all of my heart!

Love,

Elder Peacock
